Care Jobs in Gloucester
Part-time and full-time carer positions available now in Gloucester and surrounding areas.
Looking for carer jobs in Gloucester? First4Homecare is actively recruiting compassionate, reliable care assistants and experienced carers across Gloucester, Quedgeley, Longlevens, Hucclecote, Barnwood, Tuffley and Churchdown. Whether you’re experienced or brand new to care, we have roles available now.
Home care offers something many jobs don’t: the chance to make a tangible difference every single day. You’ll work in clients’ homes, building genuine relationships with the people you support, helping them maintain independence and dignity. It’s meaningful work. It’s work that matters.
About First4Homecare: We’re a CQC Rated Good home care provider with Top 20 Home Care Group in the UK 2025. Our clients rate us 9.8/10 on homecare.co.uk. We’re proud to be a Real Living Wage Employer, and we invest heavily in training and supporting our carers. We’re growing because people want to stay and work for us — and that tells you something.
What the Role Involves
As a care assistant or carer with First4Homecare, you’ll support older people and vulnerable adults with their daily living needs in their own homes. This might include:
- Personal care visits — helping clients with washing, dressing, grooming and using the toilet with dignity and respect
- Medication prompts — reminding clients to take prescribed medications at the right time
- Companionship and emotional support — chatting, listening, being present during loneliness and low mood
- Meal preparation and support — preparing nutritious meals, helping clients eat and drink safely
- Mobility support — helping clients move safely around their home, transferring from bed to chair, using walking aids
- Practical household tasks — light tidying, laundry, shopping support
- Care documentation — recording what you’ve done via our mobile app so the team knows clients have been supported properly
Every visit is different. Every client is different. That’s what makes home care rewarding — you’re not on an assembly line. You’re building real relationships.
Who We Are Looking For
You don’t need care qualifications or years of experience. What you need is:
- Kindness and patience — genuine interest in helping people, not just doing a job
- Reliability — clients depend on you. If you say you’ll be there at 9am, you’re there at 9am
- Good communication — listening to what clients need, explaining things clearly, reporting concerns to the team
- Flexibility — willingness to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends; adapting to different client needs
- Physical capability — the ability to help people move safely and manage physically demanding visits
- A valid driving licence and access to a car — preferred but not essential for all roles. We reimburse mileage.
- Right to work in the UK — you must be able to live in or near Gloucester
If you’ve worked in retail, hospitality, teaching, childcare, or any role involving people, you have transferable skills. We’ll train you in the care-specific knowledge and techniques.
What We Pay and Provide
We believe fair compensation and genuine support aren’t optional extras — they’re baseline. Here’s what you get as part of First4Homecare:
Real Living Wage
We pay the Real Living Wage, not the government National Minimum Wage. This is the hourly rate that living costs demand, not the bare statutory minimum.
Paid Travel Time
Every minute you spend travelling between clients is paid as part of your contracted hours. No unpaid waiting around. No driving on your own dime.
Mileage Reimbursement
Using your car to visit clients? We pay mileage automatically calculated and processed through our app. You’re never out of pocket.
28 Days Annual Leave
Plus bank holidays. You get proper time to rest and be with family. Holiday is paid at your contracted rate.
Workplace Pension
Automatic pension contributions for your long-term security. You can increase your own contribution at any time.
DBS Check Funded
Enhanced DBS clearance is required. We pay for it. No cost to you.
Fully Funded Training
Induction, mandatory training, Care Certificate qualification — all funded by us. If you want to progress to NVQ or specialist qualifications, we fund those too.
Blue Light Card Scheme
Discounts on groceries, restaurants, entertainment and more. You’re recognised as a care worker.
Consistent Rotas
No zero-hour contracts. You have predictable scheduled hours. Flexibility is available for genuine circumstances (school pickup, second jobs) but not at the expense of your security.
Your First 12 Weeks
Starting any new job is nerve-wracking. We make it structured and supportive:
Week 1-2: Comprehensive Induction
Meet the team, learn about First4Homecare’s values and processes, mandatory training in safeguarding, health and safety, infection control. You’ll get the mobile app set up and understand how we document care.
Week 2-4: Shadow Shifts
You’ll work alongside an experienced carer. Observe how they interact with clients, learn our care approach, ask questions. You’re not delivering care yet — you’re learning.
Week 4-8: Supported Solo Delivery
You’ll start delivering care with a “buddy” carer available for support. You’re responsible for the visit, but there’s a safety net. Regular check-ins with your manager.
Week 8-12: Care Certificate
We help you complete the Care Certificate qualification — the nationally recognised standard for care workers. Assessments are built into real work, not separate courses.
Ongoing
Regular supervisions, continuous training, and a clear progression pathway. You’re not left to figure things out alone.
Typical Working Patterns
We need carers across different times of day to serve our clients:
Early Mornings (7am–2pm)
Help clients wake up, get washed and dressed, have breakfast, take medication. These visits set the tone for the client’s day. Good pay for early starts.
Late Afternoons & Evenings (4pm–10pm)
Support with dinner, medication, getting ready for bed. Evening carers are crucial for clients’ security and confidence.
Weekends
Clients need weekend support too. Weekend shifts often attract a premium rate and many carers prefer weekends for work-life balance.
Flexible Hours Available
Want 2-3 hours per week around school pickup? We can work with that. Want 35+ hours as your main job? We have those roles too. We’re flexible about genuine circumstances, but we’re firm about reliability.
How to Apply
The process is straightforward and designed to be fair to you:
- Complete our online application form. Tell us about yourself, your work history, and why you’re interested in care work. Be honest — we’re not looking for perfect, we’re looking for genuine.
- Initial phone interview. A member of the recruitment team will call you. We’ll talk through the role, answer your questions, make sure it’s right for you.
- Face-to-face interview. Meet the manager who will support you if you’re hired. This is your chance to see the office, ask anything, get a real sense of the team.
- References and DBS clearance. We’ll contact your references and apply for an enhanced DBS check. This takes 2-3 weeks.
- Start training and onboarding. Once cleared, you’ll begin induction and training as outlined above.
Visa Sponsorship
We are unable to offer visa sponsorship. To work for First4Homecare, you must have the right to live and work in the UK and be able to live in or near Gloucester. You’ll need to provide proof (passport, visa or settled status) as part of the recruitment process.
